Batik Sarung

Batik Sarung? For the younger generations, they wouldn't know how to use them. Only those of our mother's( 60s of age )generations are still using them or for kampung folks (some would relate to). Not everyone (from my customers' feedback) are keen to wear them, just because it is hard to wear/tie it i.e afraid the sarung might slip down.

But surprisingly our sarongs are still the popular item during all the sales, especially among the foreigners. As our sarongs from local Terengganu are made from good cotton and have beautiful colours and designs, they were bought as personal use (as long skirt/ pareo), gifts to their loved ones/guests, table cloths or to be made into other craft items. Not expensive though.

Batik Sarong is a long piece of fabric normally measuring standard 40” x 70” in length with the two sides sewn together.

The beauty of the batik sarong is its adaptability as it can be used in so many ways. Traditionally, the women wear it around the waist. It can also be worn from the arm as a sundressor bath cloth.

Others use it as a head-cloth to shield from the sun, and mother lull their babies to sleep in the hook of the sarung. If the ends are not sewn together, then it is called kain lepas to be used as a waist wrap-around

Promosi Aidil Fitri 2007

This craft sales was held for the coming Raya celebrations which was during fasting month. Held at Kraftangan HQ, Jalan Conlay from 9am - 6pm for 12 days. The products on sale were related to items required for raya celebrations; baju kurung, accessories, house decorations, biscuits. All must be locally made.

Of course our products were still from batik material. For this sales we have added Batik shirt and kurung. Our most unique craft item displayed was crochet items. The items were handcrochet by a friend. Check out my business links for the website.

Batik Merdeka 2007

This was the first craft sales participated by MM Jalin known as Promosi Batik Merdeka 2007. It was held for 12 days at Kraftangan HQ, Jalan Conlay to celebrate Malaysia Merdeka Day (50th Year). Our booth was by the stage so we were enjoying the shows while entertaining our customers. It was rather exciting.

Other participants came from all over Malaysia bringing with them all sorts of products related to batik ; materials, dresses, handicrafts. Since it is batik promotion, the products must be made of batik.

Our products were mainly batik sarong, table runners, organisers.

This was one of the traditional shows for visitors. It was a good performance!
